Nicolien Sauerbreij was born in the small village De Hoef in the province Utrecht in the Netherlands. She has a sister Marieke Sauerbreij, who is also a professional snowboarder. Her father is Maarten Sauerbreij, who is also her coach.

Her first podium position was in the world cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne 2001. She became second in the parallel giant slalom.

At 15 September 2002 she won her first World cup in the parallel giant slalom. This was in Chili at the Valle Nevado. In the same season she had her second victory in Slovenia at the Maribor.

Sauerbreij has also competed in several world cups with success, achieving several podium positions, including first placings in 2002, 2003, 2008 and 2010. She finished first in the overall standings of the parallel giant slalom World Cup in the 2007–2008 World Cup season. and also first in the overall standings of the parallel giant slalom World Cup in the 2009–2010 World Cup season.

Janssen’s name is pronounced as Fahm-Kuh Yan-Sun. The first name means little girl in West Frisian, the native language of the Dutch province Friesland.

Famke Beumer Janssen was born in Amstelveen, the Netherlands. Besides her native Dutch, Janssen learned to speak English, German and French. She has two sisters, director Antoinette Beumer and actress Marjolein Beumer. Janssen moved to the United States in 1984 and began her professional career as a fashion model. She was signed with Elite Model Management and worked for Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Victoria’s Secret.

Janssen also studied writing and literature at Columbia University before moving to Los Angeles to establish her acting career.

Personal life

Janssen lives in West Village in New York City. She was married to writer/director Tod Culpan Williams, son of architect Tod Williams, from 1995 to 2000.

Janssen has a brindle Boston terrier named Licorice, with whom she frequently travels.
